This study day offers an in-depth and intimate opportunity to view rare eighteenth century architectural drawings and prints at the Yale Center for British Art. Participants will see important drawings by William Kent, including designs for interiors, public buildings, and imaginary landscapes. Madeleine Helmer will discuss the execution and purpose of Kent’s immediate and lively sketches, and also examine the works of his contemporaries, focusing on the disciplines of landscape design, decorative painting, and public architecture in the early eighteenth century.
Madeleine Helmer is the architectural drawings cataloguer and researcher at the Yale Center for British Art.
