As a musical parallel to the journey of cloisonné from China
to France, this concert features master erhu player and composer Wang Guowei,
who will perform ancient Tang-dynasty selections accompanied by the yangqin, a
hammered dulcimer that embodies the classical and regional music of China. The
Colorado Quartet will perform Chen Yi’s Sprout and Maurice Ravel’s lyrical
String Quartet. A special tour of the Cloisonné exhibition precedes the
concert, and reception with the artists concludes the program.
Wang Guowei is a master erhu player and composer. He has
performed internationally with the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra.
The Colorado Quartet (Julie Rosenfeld, D. Lydia Redding,
Marka Gustavsson, and Katie Schlaikjer) has won the Naumburg Chamber Music
Award and first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
This is the first female quartet to have performed the complete Beethoven cycle
in both NorthAmerica and Europe.
