Willem Frijhoff will be giving a lecture Thursday, September 24, at 6pm titled Reverend Everardus Bogardus (1607-1647) and His Callings.”
Everardus Bogardus was the second minister of the Dutch
Reformed Church (now Collegiate Church) of the New Netherland era. During his
sixteen-year tenure, he played a significant role in the formation of both his
church and the Dutch settlement. In this lecture, Willem Frijhoff will discuss
Reverend Bogardus’s life and his contributions to religious and cultural life
in New Amsterdam. Historian Firth Haring Fabend will then join Frijhoff in a
concluding dialogue. The lecture will be followed by an exhibition-viewing and
reception. Willem Frijhoff is emeritus professor of early modern history,
faculty of arts, Free University, Amsterdam. He is the author of Fulfilling
God’s Mission: The Two Worlds of Dominie Everardus Bogardus, 1607-1647. Firth
Haring Fabend is a novelist, historian, and author of Zion on the Hudson: Dutch
New York and New Jersey in the Age of Revivals.
