On September 27, Bard Graduate Center hosted its first annual Scholarship Sherry. Faculty, students, alumni, and donors came together to celebrate both the generosity of our donors and the academic accomplishments of our students. The event was an opportunity to share each other’s passion for and commitment to the study of decorative arts, design history, and material culture.
Jennifer Olshin (MA, 1998), a donor and board member, addressed the attendees. She commended the versatility of her education at the Bard Graduate Center, emphasizing that a BGC degree takes students in many different directions. Truer words could not be said, with alumni serving in prestigious positions at Sotheby’s and Doyle auction houses, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the NYC Parks and Recreation Department, the Getty Research Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Architectural Digest, among others.
One of Bard Graduate Center’s core values is ensuring that the most highly qualified students have access to a degree here regardless of their financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, last year’s class of MA and PhD students received almost $1.4 million in financial aid! If it were not for our Scholarship Fund, Bard Graduate Center would not serve as a leading institute for the advanced study of the cultural history of the material world. Cheers to that!
